Managing Your Facility on The Local Barn

If you own or manage a rink, The Local Barn gives you tools to keep your facility's page accurate and up to date. This guide covers everything from claiming your rink to syncing calendars and managing access.

---

Claiming Your Facility

Click the "Claim this Facility" button on your rink's page. You'll be asked to verify your ownership or management role. Once approved, you'll receive Verified status, which adds a badge to your rink page and gives you direct management access.

As a verified manager:

  • Your edits go live immediately — no community approval required.
  • You can manage the rink's schedule, amenities, programs, and description.
  • Your ice condition reports are marked as Verified for extra trust.

  • ---

    Managing Your Schedule

The Schedule tab on your rink page is exclusively managed by verified facility owners. From your rink page you can:

  • Add Events — Create recurring or one-time events. Supported event types include Open Skate, Stick & Puck, Hockey Practice, Hockey Game, Learn to Skate, Figure Skating, Drop-in Hockey, Private Rental, Maintenance, and Other.
  • Edit Events — Update event times, descriptions, event types, or cancel individual sessions.
  • Multi-Sheet Support — If your facility has multiple ice sheets, you can tag each event with a sheet name (e.g. "North Rink", "South Rink", "Sheet A"). Users can then filter the schedule by sheet.

  • Your schedule is visible to all visitors and appears in the aggregated schedules of users who have favorited your rink.

    ---

    Syncing a Calendar Feed (ICS)

If your facility already has a calendar system that provides a .ics or webcal:// feed URL, you can sync it directly into The Local Barn:

    1. Click "Sync Calendar" on the Schedule tab.

    2. Paste the .ics or webcal:// URL into the feed URL field.

    3. Give the feed a label (e.g. "Hockey Schedule", "Public Skating"). This label becomes the sheet name for all events imported from that feed.

    4. Click Sync to import events.

    How syncing works:

  • Events are automatically imported and categorized by type based on their title (e.g. "Learn to Skate" events are auto-tagged as Learn to Skate).
  • Synced events display a sync icon to indicate they come from an external calendar.
  • You can override the auto-detected event type on any synced event by clicking on it and changing the type.
  • The calendar syncs automatically twice daily (6 AM and 6 PM) to stay up to date.
  • You can add multiple feeds — one per sheet or program area. Each feed's label becomes its own sheet tab in the schedule.

    Updating Rink Information

As a verified manager, you have direct access to update:

  • Name, Address & Description — Keep your facility's listing accurate.
  • Website & Social Links — Add or update your website, Facebook, and Instagram URLs.
  • Amenities — Toggle amenities including Skate Rental, Pro Shop, Warming House, Concessions, Equipment Rental, Sharpening, and Restaurant/Bar.
  • Programs — Toggle programs including Open Skate, Stick & Puck, Shinny, Drop-in Hockey, Learn to Skate, Figure Skating, Youth League, Men's Rec, Women's Rec, Coed League, Travel Teams, and more.
  • Status — Mark your facility as Permanently Closed if it has permanently shut down.

  • All changes made by verified managers are applied instantly without needing community confirmation.

    ---

    Ice Condition Reports (Verified)

When you submit an ice condition report as a verified manager, it's automatically tagged as a Verified report. This signals to users that the update comes directly from the facility and carries more weight than community-submitted reports.

    ---

    Private Rink Access Control

If your rink is marked as Private (e.g. a backyard rink or members-only facility), you have full control over who can see your location details and schedule:

  • Access Requests — Users can request access to your rink. You'll receive a notification and can approve, deny, or ban the requester.
  • Manager Notes — When approving or denying, you can include a note to the user (e.g. "Come by Saturday at 2pm" or "Members only — contact us to join").
  • Revoke Access — You can revoke a user's access at any time from your rink's management panel.

  • Unapproved users will see your rink listed but won't be able to see the address, location, or schedule until they're approved.

    ---

    Promotional Tools

Verified managers have access to a Download Flyer button that generates a printable QR-code flyer for your rink. Share it at your rink, in the locker room, or around the community to drive visitors to your page.
