Whether you're 25 or 55, picking up hockey as an adult is incredibly rewarding. Here's how to get over the "newbie" hurdle.

Find an Adult LTP

Many adult leagues run "Beginner Clinics" or "Discovery Programs." These are safe spaces where everyone is learning to skate and handle the puck at the same pace.

Protective Gear is Non-Negotiable

Falling on ice hurts more as an adult. Don't skimp on padded hockey pants and tailbone protection. Wear a cage — your dentist will thank you.

Public Skates are Practice

Spend as much time as possible at public open skates between your hockey sessions. Building your "skating legs" is 90% of the battle in adult rec hockey.
